Ohio Arts Council Statewide Conference Announced, Slated in Akron for 2020

Arts leaders from across the state will convene in Akron from May 6 to 8, 2020, as the Ohio Arts Council (OAC) hosts the Arts Impact Ohio conference at the John S. Knight Center.

Arts Impact Ohio
is the OAC’s biennial statewide professional development conference. For the first time since its revival in 2016, the conference will move out of Columbus and find a home in Akron in 2020. Arts Impact Ohio serves as an action-oriented, forward-looking professional development opportunity for members of the state’s arts and cultural sector.

Based on past attendance, the OAC expects that more than 300 attendees will gather to discuss and learn about the latest trends in Ohio’s creative economy. New in 2020, a preconference on May 6 will offer an arts learning focus for attendees.

“Akron is thrilled to welcome this statewide conference and host members of the arts and culture sector,” said Dan Horrigan, mayor of the City of Akron. “As we work across our community to develop the Akron Cultural Plan, we look forward to showcasing the talent and vibrancy of the region and highlighting why the nation is paying attention to Akron.”

OAC Executive Director Donna S. Collins said a variety of discussions and learning opportunities during Arts Impact Ohio will take a creative approach to considering timely topics in the arts while highlighting local best practices.

“We look forward to investing in Ohio’s arts sector by offering a unique and engaging professional learning event in Akron,” Collins said. “Experiences will be diverse—hands-on and one-on-one, in small groups and plenary sessions—all of which will engage learners of all types—visual, aural, verbal, physical, logical, and social. If you’re wondering if we’ve designed this conference with you in mind, rest assured, we did!”
